Luke’s PhD research combines engineering and medicine to generate a treatment for Parkinson’s disease with technology utilising red to near-infrared light to slow cell loss; termed photobiomodulation. As a graduate of the NSW Health’s Medical Device Commercialisation Training Program, he seeks to translate this research into an at-home treatment to help people with Parkinson’s. He is also the founder of Project APPEAR, a University of Sydney initiative to rapidly prototype, evaluate and manufacture PPE to protect frontline medical workers during the COVID-19 medical emergency.
