I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s five years ago, after many years of escalating and varied symptoms. My unilateral symptoms included painful left shoulder, no natural swing of my left arm when walking, loss of smell, apathy, fatigue and a host of other non motor symptoms. My GP referred me to a General Neurologist who diagnosed Parkinson’s and prescribed Levadopa which immediately relieved my symptoms.
However after a recent decline in the effectiveness and an adverse reaction to an oral medication I recently had Deep Brain Stimulation, with pleasing results.
I am a retired nurse. I am interested in trying to improve the lives of people diagnosed with Parkinson’s, by helping them to receive information on recommended lifestyle so that they can make informed decisions about quality treatment, life and end of life decisions. I started a successful Parkinson’s lunch group for women with two other friends four years ago and I help distribute Parkinson’s news to the wider Parkinson’s community.
