Dr Dan Johnstone

Neuroscientist and Senior Lecturer - University of Sydney
Professional Bio
Dr Dan Johnstone is a neuroscientist and Senior Lecturer within the Discipline of Physiology at the University of Sydney. His research program focuses on the dual phenomena of neurodegeneration and neuroprotection: understanding why the brain to fails with age and developing innovative strategies to slow, delay or prevent this process. Over the last 8 years, he has pioneered the field of neuroprotection by “remote photobiomodulation”, aiming to understand how low-intensity red light targeted at different parts of the body can protect the brain and how this might translate into a useful therapy for people with neurodegenerative diseases such as PD.
